How to Choose the Right Pump
![]() |
- Type and size - once you have
specified your requirements as to application, product, capacity and pressure
you choose your pump accordingly.
- Impeller - The W+ range is
available with different impeller diameters according to model and 5 mm
diameter increments within each model.
- Motor - Motor size is determined according to
impeller diameter and flow. Please see pump charts. If the pumped
fluid has a higher viscosity or higher specific weight than water,
the actual power consumption will exceed the values indicated in
the charts. The required pump speed also influences the choice of
motor size. The standard Ws+pump motors are available with 3000 (50
Hz) as well as 3600 rpm (60 Hz). IEC motors are IP55, insulation
class F, manufactured by Brook Hansen and provided with drain
holes. NEMA motors meet at least the TEFC standards. Some customers
require additional features due to regulatory agencies or
self-imposed restrictions.
- Shaft Seals - As standard, W+ pumps are fitted
with a mechanical shaft seal consisting of a rotating silicon
carbide face against a static face of carbon with the pump body
gasket and seal elastomers in EPDM elastomer. O-rings and seals can
also be supplied in FPM or kalrez.
- Water flushed shaft seals - W+ pump, a water
flushed shaft seal is an ideal solution for instance if the pumped
fluid contains content of solids (eg undissolved sugar).
- Pump body sealing - As standard the O-ring
gaskets for the pump housing is manufactured in EPDM elastomer. All
W+pumps are available with O-rings in EPDM or FPM elastomers as an
option. Together these elastomer qualities cater for any
requirement regarding leak proof sealing, even when dealing with
difficult products.
- Fittings - The pump inlet and outlet may be
provided with unions, clamp connections for flanges according to
the DS, ISO, DIN, BS and SMS standards for the welding of pipes
according to ISO 2037 and DIN 11850. Also available are butt weld,
threaded bevel, threaded APC AV, Tri-clamp, ISS threaded, ANSI
flange and others.
- Shroud - All standard pumps with IEC motors
are equipped with a stainless steel shroud. Additionally, the
rotating pump parts will be protected by a stainless steel safety
guard. The standard shroud sizes are compatible with most standard
motors.
Motor shrouds are easy to remove and refit. The shrouds of the bigger pump models are provided with a handle to facilitate removal. For pumps with NEMA motors often a wash-down type is used meaning that a shroud is not used.
- Legs - All standard pump models are supported by legs. Pumps with a motor of up to 5.5 kW are supported by three legs and pumps with motor sizes from 5.5 kW andover have 4 legs. All pumps are supplied with ball type polyamide feet which have a sound damping effect and facilitate height adjustment and balancing of the 4 feet.
