How is the homogeniser different from a colloid mill or a high-shear mixer?

The homogeniser imparts higher energy to the liquid than the other two devices. It causes emulsification by creating intense turbulent flow. The colloid mill or high-shear mixer produces strong shear fields. As a rule of thumb, the energy level of a colloid mill or high-shear mixer is equivalent to operating a homogeniser at 1000 psi (69 bar) or less.
